Mum shares ‘game-changing’ dishwasher hack to stop bowls filling with water

It doesn’t seem to matter how well we load the dishwasher, there’s always a few bowls and cups that manage to flip over and fill with water.

If you’re fed up of opening the dishwasher to find water splashing out of lightweight kitchenware then one mum has shared a simple solution to put an end to the problem once and for all.

She originally posted the hack on Reddit before it was shared to Facebook groups, where others tried it for themselves and said it “works a treat”.

All you need to do is place a cheap wire drying rack over the top of your kitchenware once the dishwasher is ready to be turned on to keep everything in place.

The rack acts as a cage and doesn’t give bowls and cups the space to flip over and fill with water.

Others praised the “fabulous” solution, as one replied to say: “This is brilliant, thanks for sharing”.

A second wrote: “Yep, this works a treat! I use cake racks.”

Another suggested using oven racks, which not only keeps everything held down but saves the job of having to clean them too.

One of the main offenders for flipping over during the wash are light plastic food tubs – and it doesn’t matter how many times you clean them, some of the stubborn stains never seem to budge.

But there’s a solution for that too. A TikTok user revealed all you need to do is put a small squirt of washing up liquid into the container and add warm water.

Then rip up kitchen roll into small pieces and drop them in too, before putting on the lid and shaking it around for 45 to 60 seconds.

And just like that, your container is as good as new.
